Noreen Golfman - Chair

Noreen Golfman is a professor of English Literature and Film Studies at Memorial University and founding director of the St. John's International Women’s Film & Video Festival. She has been a media and cultural critic for CBC, vice-chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation, director of the MUN Cinema Series, and Chair of the Steering Committee of Friends of Canadian Broadcasting.

Anna Petras - Vice-Chair

Anna Petras is a filmmaker with a wide range of experience in television and radio. She is a graduate of the Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology and is an active member of the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co-operative (NIFCO) and the Producers Association of Newfoundland (PAN).


Maria May

Maria May is an arts enthusiast and committed community volunteer.  For twenty years she worked with Great-West Life Assurance company in offices throughout Canada before joining Dallas Mercer Consulting as a Disability Management Consultant.  She previously served on the Bursary Committee for Shallaway choir, and has been involved in corporate funding events in the St. John's area through her role with Great-West Life.  Maria has been on the St. John's International Women's Film Festival board since 2008.


Erin Best

Erin Best is a lawyer with a developing practice in entertainment and media law.  She is the chair of the Canadian Bar Association Intellectual Property Section, NL Chapter,and co-chair of the National Copyright Work Group who make submissions on changes to copyright legislation. Erin is also a singer and currently performs with Rasa and the Idlers.


Sharon Pippy

Sharon has practiced oncology nursing, both inpatient and ambulatory, throughout her career, including work in Ontario, British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Her research interests included exploring the meaning and experience of cancer for patients and families, aging and cancer, ethics and moral agency, and the social organization of health care. Her graduate program was interdisciplinary and emphasized policy analysis, program development and sensitivity to issues of marginalization, including gender, race, ability and geography. Sharon, an avid reader, is interested in film, literature, live music, community development and history.


Gillian Marx

Gillian Marx is the Media Relations Specialist for Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism. In this capacity, Gillian is responsible for generating story ideas about Newfoundland and Labrador as a tourism destination.  The goal is to have travel media get excited about this magical place she calls home so that in combination with editors for major publications, electronic media and online media they can tell the stories of the destination that will encourage and entice travellers to visit.When Gillian isn’t dancing around the schedule of her two teenaged boys, she is having fun learning a new Flamenco choreography.


Jane Mingay

Jane Mingay has worked in TV for more than 25 years. She has produced, directed, written and commissioned hundreds of stories, including hour-long documentaries and specials. After working as a producer at CBC and CTV,  Jane spent eight years at  Discovery Channel,  including a stint as the executive producer of the nightly science show Daily Planet. In 2003 she returned to the public broadcaster as a senior producer  (Disclosure, fifth estate specials and Test the Nation). She has won numerous awards, including two Geminis.


Jane Adey

Jane Adey has been working in television and radio for 12 years. She has covered news and current affairs in every nook and cranny of the province as a Video-Journalist with CBC. Jane has produced several documentaries for CBC's award-winning, local program, Land & Sea and has been recognized for her work by the Columbus Ohio, International Film and Video Festival.  Jane is a night owl these days.  She hosts CBC's Here & Now Late Night news program.  She is privileged to be a board member with such a fine group of women.


Clara McCue

Clara McCue is a business development coordinator in the College of the North Atlantic’s Contract Training and Continuing Education Division where she devises training programs for the community and corporate sector to meet industry needs. She is also a team lead on several national, pilot projects in community college education.  She has a long history of working and volunteering in the non-profit sector where she has worked on a range of issues including poverty reduction, women's health, aboriginal, economic and cultural development; her expertise on board governance and strategic planning is sought after. Clara is also Vice-Chair of the Suzuki Talent Education Program and has served as a board director for The Community Sector Council and Choices for Youth and as an Ambassodor for The Board of Trade. She watched the entire Friday the 13th movie with a coat over her head. 


Angela Antle

Angela Antle is a visual artist and the producer – host of CBC Radio’s cultural program: “WAM.” As an artist, Angela works primarily in the medium of encaustic painting, but she’s also created a neon installation and is working on an installation for a multi media exhibit called “Shorelines.” It will tour Ireland and Newfoundland in 2010.  As a radio producer, Antle co-created and hosted "Socket" CBC Radio's first national radio program on visual artists and she is currently developing a television series that will combine the ingenuity of rural Newfoundlanders with the latest innovations in ‘green’ house design. Angela is also on the board of A1C Gallery and can be found most mornings on the pond rowing with 'The Unfit Mothers' crew.
