Masculinity – a subject for International Women’s Day

“Be a man.”

What does it mean to be a man? What does it mean to be a woman? What if you don’t identify as either?

As we grow up, we all face ideas about what we need to do to fit in, and who we need to be.

How can we all stay true to ourselves and negotiate what the world is telling us to be?

The Mask You Live In is a new documentary from Miss Representation director Jennifer Siebel Newsom that looks at the confining stereotypes that boys are exposed to as they become men.

At the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival we work hard in the fight against harmful ideas about women and femininity. We know it’s a piece of a larger conversation, and it’s a conversation we need to have. So we’re excited to be co-presenting a screening of this doc on Sunday, March 8 — International Women’s Day. The screening will be a co-presentation with the Men’s Outreach Committee of the NL Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre.
