League of Exotique Dancers

  • LSPU Hall 3 Victoria Street St. John's

In our time, the once noble art of burlesque has given way to the tedious mechanics of pole dancing. League of Exotique Dancers is an enormously entertaining celebration of that art and of the women who once performed their way to the status of legends. The women on whom the spotlight shines are smart, sassy, and still so sexy after all these years. They speak with moving candor and wit about their love of burlesque and a not-so-distant past when feminism was becoming a social commonplace. Indeed, they were in every way the living embodiment of Our Bodies, Ourselves. Their lives were also often harsh and challenging, but they obviously survived with a hard-won sense of their female power. It’s hard not to love each and every single woman featured here. Where once they bumped and did the grind we stand.
