When it comes to the new world of virtual reality, the motto “see it to believe it” rings true. You will be invited to emerge yourself in VR experiences and discuss the creative process with the teams leading the gaming/VR world, and how they used this new technology to uniquely tell these stories. Featuring Patricia Bergeron (Leitmotiv, RVCQ), Claire Buffet (Turbulent) and Deirdre (Beep) Ayre (Other Ocean Interactive).
Claire Buffet joined Turbulent in 2008 and has gone on to become a partner and Chief Creative Officer. She was key to the success of the cross-platform projects Champlain’s Dream (TFO), a Gémeaux award winner in 2015, and Qu’est-ce qu’on mange pour souper (Radio-Canada), which won Gémeaux, Numix, and Boomerang awards. In 2016, she produced the virtual reality experience The Unknown Photographer which was part of the official selection of the Sundance Film Festival, won a Webby Award, and was a nominee at the Emotional Games Awards.
Patricia Bergeron is an independent producer at her own company Leitmotiv, where she works on documentary and fiction film narratives for crossover platforms and for the big screen. She’s teaching at INIS, in the documentary and interactive media programs and she’s given workshops on digital ecosystem and creation. She is also programming UXdoc section at Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM) and Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois (RVCQ). Her creativity and leadership is making her an important actor in transmedia and cinema around the world.
Deirdre (Beep) Ayre. In 2006 Deirdre took her place as Studio Head for Other Ocean Interactive after spearheading the establishment of its Prince Edward Island studio. In 2007 she oversaw the establishment of Other Ocean’s video game testing and community management company, Sculpin QA, followed by the establishment of Other Ocean’s 2nd development studio in St John’s. She is responsible for all aspects of Canadian operations for the three companies. Deirdre is a member of the board of the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, and vice president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Interactive Media Alliance.
