website accessibility

Our website makes available the UserWay Website Accessibility Widget that is powered by a dedicated accessibility server. The software allows us to improve our compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).

Enabling the Accessibility Menu

The WomensFilmFestival.com accessibility menu can be enabled by clicking the accessibility menu icon that appears on the corner of the page. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for the accessibility menu to load in its entirety.

Disclaimer: We are continuing our efforts to constantly improve the accessibility of WomensFilmFestival.com and services in the belief that it is our collective obligation to allow seamless, accessible and unhindered use for those of us with disabilities.

We regularly scan WomensFilmFestival.com with UserWay's Accessibility Scanner to identify and fix every accessibility barrier on our site. Despite our efforts, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. We welcome feedback, so please let us know how we can do better. Email info@womensfilmfestival.com.

There are accessible seating options for most of our screenings and events. Please let the Box Office know of any accessibility features you require when ordering tickets.

Attendant Passes and Access 2 Entertainment cards will be accepted at all events. The person with the disability pays the regular admission fee - the companion ticket is free of charge upon request.

You may request Assisted Listening Devices at the Box Office of The Majestic or at the front desk of The Rooms.

ASL/English Interpreting Services are provided at no charge for our Coffee and Culture screening at The Rooms through the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of the Deaf by request only to ASLservices@therooms.ca or 709-757-8090. They will do their best to accommodate requests made within two weeks of the scheduled event.

accessible transportation options

Metrobus stops are located near all of our venues. Metrobus offers wheelchair accessible service through the use of accessible low floor buses on Metrobus routes 1, 2, 3, 14 and 23. The ramp can be used at over 80% of bus stops with more than 40% of stops deemed to be fully accessible for customers using mobility devices. Please read more at www.MetroBus.com/ALF

Newfound Cabs offer accessible cabs. You may book them by calling (709) 744-4444, or download the City Wide Taxi/Newfound Cabs/Budgens app on Apple or GooglePlay. They also offer booster and car seats if requested.

GoBus Accessible Transit is the St. John's area para-transit system. It operates within the municipalities of St. Johns and Mount Pearl only. The GoBus mandate is to provide persons with disabilities and those who are unable to access conventional transit, equal access to a transportation system so as to enhance their participation in all aspects of community life. The goal is to ensure that accessible, affordable transportation is provided in a dignified and respectful manner. Learn more here or call (709) 368-8887.

additional ways we try to be an inclusive organization

  • We try our best to maintain low ticket fees and offer discounted rates for individual tickets for students (up to post-secondary) and seniors (60 plus).

We also provide blocks of complimentary tickets to many local community partners, focusing on those serving underrepresented and marginalized community members. If your organization fits this description and you’d like to know more, please reach out.

  • Local residents can use the Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries Connect Pass program to book tickets for free admission to select events.

  • To value artists is to pay artists. We pay fair screening and professional fees to every artist we work with. We donate annually to the Cultural Artists Plan for Emergency Fund to support local cultural artists in crisis. When you buy a ticket, you’re directly putting money into the pockets of the artists we proudly serve.

  • All films screened at SJIWFF are not yet rated, and viewer discretion is strongly advised. We recommend reading each film synopsis (advisories are listed in the description of each film we screen) and researching the content matter to ensure your Festival experience is enjoyable. In general, all films are recommended for adult audiences.

  • Alcohol may be served at many of our receptions and events. Most of our day events are dry and non-alcoholic options will be prominently offered at all events where drinks are served.

  • In 2020, the Festival held a panel on Accessibility in Filmmaking to further discuss the importance of prioritizing accessibility in the filmmaking process, from pre-production to exhibition. You can watch this panel here.

  • Please visit our support services page here for a list of support services.

SJIWFF is committed to creating safe, positive spaces that welcomes and support everyone.
